10 Ways to Get Your Feet Wet with Improvisation
The field of improvisation is as expansive as the ocean, so for newcomers, it can be pretty scary. In this session, you’ll “test the waters” with some easy tools that sound great right away. Specifically, the 10 tools you’ll learn about are storytelling, left hand patterns, blues, ornaments, “comp”ing, editing, form riding, element mashups, common progressions, and el-ement isolation.

Duo Recital and Masterclass

Presenters: Lin-Linder Piano Duo
The Lin-Linder Duo (Fanya Lin and Daniel Linder, Associate Professors of Practice in Piano at the University of Arizona) will present a recital showcasing vibrant 20th- and 21st-century works for two pianos. Their Program will include Gabriela Lena Frank’s Danza de los Saqsampillos, an exciting dance-toccata inspired by the image of the Peruvian jungle-warrior, alongside Three Seascapes by UA Professor of Composition Yuanyuan (Kay) He, a three-movement work depicting paintings inspired by the ever-changing ocean waves. Finally, the program will conclude with Francis Poulenc’s exuberant Concerto in D Minor for Two Pianos.
